Alaa is nine years old and lives with his mother in an abandoned building that is partially destroyed in Iraq. A few years ago, their house was attacked by terrorists who killed his father. His mother was forced to flee to another area. Alaa suffered trauma because of these events and became introverted and fearful. He cried a lot and refused to mix with other children. Even worse, Alaa’s mother was forced to work long hours so Alaa stayed alone without care. Caring Iraqi adults in Alaa’s community reached out to him and gave him lots of love and compassion. With patience and care, he was able to overcome the shock and trauma of his past and now responds well to the services provided to him. With the help of your sponsorship, Alaa is today enjoying education, health care, and social services.
The mission of the Sponsor Iraqi Children Foundation is to assist the families and communities of Iraq by mobilizing a life-changing campaign of love for millions of children orphaned by violence in Iraq. They are committed to doing this under the leadership of the Iraqi people by serving as a catalyst to mobilize U.S. and international partners; investing in training and capacity building of Iraq’s non-governmental and community organizations; and emphasizing direct assistance for hand up, not hand out, projects.
Through your generosity, John, Garry, Cindy and Steve, Rasha, Jennifer, and Hannah, children like Alaa can reclaim their childhood.
