Emerging from neglect and isolation
posted April 18, 2013
Tiba is a 10 year old girl with a speech disability. Her mother died so she lives with her father in a desperately poor area of Iraq. Her father is seldom employed but is often away from home. As a result, Tiba was not receiving the care she needed and had no one who cared if she went to school. Instead, she kept to herself because of her disability and spent her time in the street suffering from neglect, poor hygiene, and lack of nutrition. Caring adults in her community reached out to her and provided psychosocial support to help her rise above her disability and emerge from her isolation. Thanks to your generous sponsorship support, Tiba today is receiving tutoring, healthy meals, social, and health care in the company of lots of other Iraqi children.
The mission of the Sponsor Iraqi Children Foundation is to assist the families and communities of Iraq by mobilizing a life-changing “Surge of Love” for millions of children orphaned by violence in Iraq. They are committed to doing this under the leadership of the Iraqi people by serving as a catalyst to mobilize U.S. and international partners; investing in training and capacity building of Iraq’s non-governmental and community organizations; and emphasizing direct assistance for hand up, not hand out, projects.
Thank you Christopher, George, Chris, Paul, and Sally for helping Tiba and the Sponsor Iraqi Children Foundation!
