Mustafa is nine years old and lives with his family in a room built of mud and reeds in very poor area. When he was discovered, Mustafa had never had a toy before and had never attended school. Instead, he was spending his time on the streets, suffering from neglect, lack of nutrition, poor hygiene, and skin diseases. Emerging from neglect and isolation

Tiba is a 10 year old girl with a speech disability. Her mother died so she lives with her father in a desperately poor area of Iraq. Her father is seldom employed but is often away from home. As a result, Tiba was not receiving the care she needed and had no one who cared if she went to school. Instead, she kept to herself because of her disability and spent her time in the street suffering from neglect, poor hygiene, and lack of nutrition. Caring adults in her community reached out to her and provided psychosocial support to help her rise above her disability and emerge from her isolation. Thanks to your generous sponsorship support, Tiba today is receiving tutoring, healthy meals, social, and health care in the company of lots of other Iraqi children.

Raghad can recover her lost childhood

Jasim is no longer exposed to the terrors of the streets

Dear Mike and Sue,

Jasim, 10 years old, is an orphan who lives with his older brother in extreme poverty in Iraq. Because he had to work for a living, Jasim left school and spent most of his time on the streets trying to sell simple things such as tissue and candy. On the streets, he was exposed many times to physical assault and beatings. When he would come home, he would cry because of the intense fatigue and fear. In addition, he suffered from malnutrition, poor hygiene, and skin disease. Caring Iraqi adults in his community reached out to Jasim and, with the help of your sponsorship, he is receiving tutoring, healthy meals, other services, and lots of love and compassion.

Alaa overcame the shock and trauma of his past

Alaa is nine years old and lives with his mother in an abandoned building that is partially destroyed in Iraq. A few years ago, their house was attacked by terrorists who killed his father. His mother was forced to flee to another area. Alaa suffered trauma because of these events and became introverted and fearful. He cried a lot and refused to mix with other children. Even worse, Alaa’s mother was forced to work long hours so Alaa stayed alone without care. Caring Iraqi adults in Alaa’s community reached out to him and gave him lots of love and compassion. With patience and care, he was able to overcome the shock and trauma of his past and now responds well to the services provided to him. With the help of your sponsorship, Alaa is today enjoying education, health care, and social services.

Kadhem has a community behind him
